Israeli Opposition Walkout During Modi’s Address

The lead-up to Narendra Modi’s Knesset speech was overshadowed by political tensions in Israel’s parliament, with opposition lawmakers staging a brief walkout in protest.

Opposition members objected to the Knesset Speaker’s decision not to invite Israel’s Supreme Court President to the session — a customary practice for high-profile foreign addresses — triggering a symbolic walkout by several members before Modi’s address.

Despite the protest, former coalition lawmakers filled seats, and the session continued, allowing Modi to deliver his historic speech.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Modi’s visit as a testament to “tremendous alliance” and emphasized the broad significance of strengthening India–Israel ties even amid political squabbles.
