Jeff Bezos Returns to Tech Leadership With New AI Venture Project Prometheus

Jeff Bezos is stepping back into an active tech role as the co-CEO of Project Prometheus, a new artificial intelligence startup entering the field with major ambitions. The company has raised 6.2 billion dollars, making it one of the largest early-stage AI ventures to date. Bezos will lead the organisation alongside Vik Bajaj, a scientist with experience at Google X and Verily. The startup has already hired around 100 employees, bringing in experts from leading AI research teams.

Project Prometheus is developing artificial intelligence systems designed to work directly with the physical world. Instead of learning from online text or digital data, its AI will gain knowledge through real experiments, machinery and engineering processes. The goal is to assist engineers and manufacturers across sectors such as computing, aerospace, automotive technology and more. The approach also aligns with Bezos’s long-standing interest in space exploration.

According to the founders, the company aims to move beyond traditional software-based AI and focus on tools that help build and test real products. By learning from hands-on tasks, the technology could support scientific discoveries and transform how complex systems — including spacecraft — are designed and produced.
