Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington amid renewed diplomatic talks between the United States and Iran.
According to Netanyahu’s office, the meeting will focus on U.S.-Iran negotiations and Israel’s concerns over Iran’s ballistic missile program and its support for militant groups in the region. Netanyahu believes any agreement must address missile limits and end Iran’s backing of armed organizations. Trump and Netanyahu last met in December, and there was no immediate comment from the White House on the upcoming talks.
The United States and Iran recently held indirect discussions in Oman regarding Iran’s nuclear program. While Trump described the talks as positive, they appeared to make little progress on resolving core disagreements. The U.S. delegation included special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. For the first time, the U.S. also involved its top Middle East military commander, Admiral Brad Cooper, reflecting heightened regional concerns.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said negotiations should occur without threats or tension, but warned that any U.S. attack on Iran would lead to retaliation against American bases in the region. He stressed that Iran’s missile program and defense capabilities are not open to negotiation. Iran maintains that discussions are limited strictly to its nuclear activities.
Reports also indicated that regional diplomats proposed temporary limits on Iran’s uranium enrichment and missile use, though Tehran has not confirmed acceptance. Israel continues to view Iran’s nuclear ambitions as a security threat, while Iran insists its program remains peaceful.
