Russian missile strikes hit Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, causing injuries and multiple fires, according to local officials, as part of a broader wave of attacks across the country. The strikes, which took place overnight, targeted several districts in the city, damaging residential buildings and infrastructure.
Emergency services reported that debris from intercepted missiles and drones ignited fires in different parts of Kyiv. Several people were injured, including emergency workers responding to the attacks. Authorities said air defence systems were able to shoot down a number of incoming projectiles, but some still reached their targets.
The assault on Kyiv formed part of a larger, coordinated offensive involving missiles and hundreds of drones launched across Ukraine. Cities including Odesa and Dnipro were also hit, with civilian casualties reported and significant damage to residential areas and infrastructure.
Ukrainian officials described the attacks as one of the most intense in recent weeks, highlighting the continued strain on the country’s air defence systems. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy renewed calls for increased international support, particularly advanced air defence equipment, to counter the sustained aerial bombardment.
Rescue operations were ongoing following the strikes, with emergency crews working to extinguish fires and search for survivors. The attacks underscore the persistent volatility of the conflict, as both sides continue military operations with no immediate resolution in sight.
