Trump Administration Drafts New Peace Proposal for Ukraine

A new peace proposal prepared by the Trump administration outlines possible steps to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, including discussions about Ukraine potentially ceding the eastern Donbas region. According to a Western official familiar with the talks, the proposal also considers limiting the size of Ukraine’s military in exchange for security guarantees from the United States. Officials stressed that the ideas are still under development and would require concessions from both sides.

The framework includes 28 points that President Donald Trump has reviewed and supports. Some elements being discussed, especially those involving territory not currently controlled by Russia, have previously been rejected by Ukraine. However, US officials believe conditions may now allow renewed dialogue.

The White House said the President remains determined to stop the conflict. The press secretary stated that Trump is frustrated with both sides for not committing to peace but continues working toward a durable agreement. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the draft as a list of possible ideas rather than a final proposal, noting that any lasting peace will involve difficult compromises.

Some floated provisions are expected to face opposition in Kyiv, as Ukraine still controls parts of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
