An airport shooting in western Mexico triggered panic after armed men reportedly entered the terminal shortly after news of cartel leader El Mencho’s killing emerged.
Unconfirmed reports suggest alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel stormed Guadalajara International Airport in Jalisco, Mexico, hours after the reported death of their leader on February 22. El Mencho, whose real name was Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, was said to have been killed during a military operation carried out earlier in the day.
Videos circulating online appear to show several armed men moving through the airport while firing weapons. Passengers were seen running through the terminal in fear, with some stumbling as they tried to escape. Authorities have not confirmed whether anyone was injured during the incident.
The airport was placed under lockdown as the situation unfolded. Footage also shows airport staff directing travellers behind check-in counters for protection. Groups of passengers were seen crouching between desks and luggage conveyor belts.
The reported airport shooting follows vehicle fires, road blockades, and damage to commercial properties across the state, contributing to wider unrest in the region.
