Hamas terrorists hand over three male Israeli hostages to the Red Cross, as part of the ceasefire agreement between Jerusalem and the Islamist group, in Deir al-Balah, the Gaza Strip, on Feb. 8, 2025.

The Israeli army announced on Thursday that Hamas has handed over the remains of two hostages to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The identities of the victims have not yet been made public, and Israeli authorities said forensic examinations are underway to confirm their names.

The development comes amid fragile ceasefire conditions in Gaza. Speaking at a military cadetsโ€™ graduation ceremony, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated that Israel remains committed to ensuring Hamas is disarmed and Gaza is fully demilitarised โ€” even without the involvement of foreign troops. He warned that Hamas would face โ€œpowerful attacksโ€ if it continues to violate the truce, emphasizing Israelโ€™s readiness to act decisively to defend its forces and civilians.

Israelโ€™s military chief, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, echoed those sentiments, stating that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are prepared to resume combat โ€œon any frontโ€ using โ€œmuch greater forceโ€ than seen in the past two years. Zamir added that the army maintains a high level of alert across all operational zones and would respond firmly to any emerging threats.
