UN Chief Welcomes Release of Israeli Hostages, Calls to End Gaza Conflict

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed relief and welcomed the release of the remaining living Israeli hostages in Gaza on Monday. In a statement, Guterres urged all parties involved to build on this positive development and work towards ending the ongoing conflict in the Palestinian territory.

“I am profoundly relieved that they have regained their freedom and will be soon reunited with their loved ones after the immense suffering they have endured,” Guterres said. He also called for the release of the remains of hostages who did not survive the ordeal.

Meanwhile, Hamas praised US President Donald Trump’s statement affirming the end of Israel’s war on Gaza. Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem urged the mediators of the Gaza ceasefire deal, including the United States, to ensure that Israel does not resume military operations in the region.

“We call on all mediators and international parties to continue monitoring Israel’s conduct and to ensure it does not resume its aggression against our people in Gaza,” Qassem added.

The release of the hostages marks a significant step in the ceasefire process, raising hopes for a broader resolution to the conflict.
