Fifteen people were injured during a violent incident at a factory in Mishima, located in Japanโs Shizuoka region, on Friday. The attack involved both a bladed weapon and an unspecified liquid, according to reports from local authorities. Eight individuals suffered stab wounds, while seven others were injured after being sprayed with bleach at the site.
Emergency services received a call at around 4:30 pm from a rubber factory reporting that several workers had been attacked. Fire department officials confirmed that at least fourteen people required transportation to hospitals for medical treatment. The condition of the injured individuals has not been fully disclosed.
Police arrested a 38-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. Reports stated that the suspect was carrying a survival knife and was wearing a gas mask at the time of the attack. Authorities have secured the area and launched a detailed investigation to determine the motive and sequence of events.
The factory involved is operated by Yokohama Rubber Co., a company known for manufacturing tyres for trucks and buses. Violent crime is uncommon in Japan, which has strict gun laws and a low homicide rate. However, isolated incidents involving knives or firearms have occurred in recent years, drawing public attention and concern.
